ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This project was quite small - only one room but the transformation of the floor plan is reviving for the client's lifestyle in this apartment - kitchen design in Gold Coast apartment. The apartment is in a multi-storey building on the Gold Coast shore with incredible views, but it was quite outdated especially the layout. So kitchen renovation started with the floor plan re-design to modernise the space and improve the day-to-day life for the clients. Nobody wants to have now an enclosed kitchen especially of this size. But luckily none of the walls were load bearing which gave us opportunity to knock down those walls and connect kitchen with the living room making it truly the heart of the home and just a spacious open-plan room to dine and entertain.
KITCHEN INTERIOR DESIGN
Kitchen design started with approvals for opening up the kitchen to the living room. Working on apartment layouts is much harder than the house floor plan update and sometimes at all not possible to introduce any changes to the existing floor plan so be careful with that. But in this case we were very lucky to have all those walls as just a thin plasterboard partitions. So once the walls were approved we could start planning out a complete redesign of the kitchen layout bring the space to a modern lifestyle needs - and once again because of the complexity of apartment renovations we've decided to keep kitchen sink in its original place, which actually worked out pretty well as it's tucked away behind the column and away from the dining area.
So we've got a large 900 mil sink in front of the window and a dishwasher on the left hand-side. And on the right hand-side on the wall facing the living room we have an induction cooktop, stone backsplash that rises up to the level of rangehood and turns into a shelf for some kitchen decor and cook books. Timber planks on the ceiling and integrated range hood bring some warmth into the colour palette of the apartment. The majority of the kitchen mess is hidden in the tall kitchen cabinets on the right. So moving from the cooking area - the first two doors are the integrated fridge, then pocket doors that hide oven and kitchen appliances garage. Kitchen island plays a role of a sort of an elegant barrier between a working kitchen and hosting and entertaining area. The kitchen floor plan designed in a way that creates this feeling of a dining area to be a bit separated from the kitchen itself, we've placed the seating area and the kitchen island away from the sink and cooktop as well as behind the bar stools are located tall cabinets and not a prep or cooking area, which creates a different ambiance for dining. The look of kitchen island is elevated by the use of light natural stone with muted veins throughout and a sophisticated leg on the dining side of the island with a fluted profile.
During an apartment or a house renovation there are areas like kitchen or bathroom that would really benefit from a professional eye so if you're not ready for the full house interior design definitely think about those most important rooms.
